Nothing To Do With My Internship, But I Miss Scrubs

imagesI know this has nothing to do with my internship this summer, but it might give you some insight to my inner child. See, I love the television show Scrubs. Every now and then I wish I had a friend who would call me Brown Bear.

On my walk home from work today, I was listening to Journey – “Don’t Stop Believin’” and wished I was sitting in the coffee shop at “Sacred Heart Hospital” eating a muffin with Kelso, checking out that fine nurse Carla. Is she Dominican or Puerto Rican? Like it matters.

So in honor of my favorite show, here are some funny clips. Enjoy!

Played Some Golf and Talked Career

My Tiger Swing

This weekend I played my first round of golf in 6 months. My Deputy Director (DD) (Don’t want to mention his name) and I have often talked about our love of the game and how, if we could, we’d play daily. So two weeks ago he invited me out for a round of golf and this past weekend we got out on the course. We played at Generals Ridge Golf Course in Manassas Park, VA. It was a beautiful track in the hills of Virginia. Each and every hole was surrounded by the forest. It was awesome. My DD is a Foreign Service Officer (FSO) and has great stories to tell about living overseas and what to expect if I were to become a FSO. He did a great job selling the service. So good in fact that I signed up today to take the Foreign Service Exam. Hopefully I’ll get a test date for October. I won’t know until the end of August when and where the test will be.

I Finally Met the Secretary at a Town Hall

US NKorea Journalists HeldOk, well I didn’t really met Secretary Clinton but I have gotten as close to her as I ever have. Today she held a Town Hall Meeting for State Department employees (Interns Included). It was standing room only in Dean Acheson Auditorium, the main Auditorium at State. Secretary Clinton spoke for 20 minutes and announced plans for a Quadrennial Development and Diplomatic Review (QDDR), to be headed by Deputy Secretary Lew. It is the second Town hall that she has had since taking the job. Click here to watch.

Why I Don’t Like Opening Weekend

images2Most of my friends and family know that I love movies. Action movies, dramas, comedies, horror movies, dramedies, Sci-fi, old classic movies, silent movies, I like the picture show, folks. Summer time is the best time for the movies. All the studios come out with their blockbuster movies. The summer is all about big money and big stars. To date this summer I’ve seen: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Year One, The Hangover, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, Angels & Demons, Star Trek, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Fast & Furious, and Public Enemies. So far so good. I’ve gotten in quite a few flicks since my summer vacation started. I honestly think that’s why Public Policy lets out in early April. This way we can get a jump on the summer movie season without worrying about finals.

But when it comes to movies, I really dislike opening weekend. As I’ve gotten older and grumpier I’ve stop enjoying the excessive invasion of my personal space. And there are few places where this happens more than in a crowded movie theater. I honestly thought that this issue would have been resolve with the creation of the multiplex, with the IMAX, and increased stadium seating. But nope, the loud, obnoxious, talking, phone ringing, armrest stealing is still as prevalent.

What Went Down Last Week

Well last week was quite busy. I’ve been working on a few projects at work that keep me busy, and I love every minute of it. I keep missing out on the Tours that the State Department sets up. I think it’s a conspiracy against me. They offered one White House tour and I replied within 30 seconds and still was too slow.

I played Hooky last Wednesday and went to the AT&T National at the Congressional Country Club. I took pictures of Tiger Woods, and the beautiful course in Bethesda Maryland and even ran into House Minority Leader John Boehner.

Friday I walked 8 miles around the city. Started out at the Smithsonian metro stop and walked to the East Potomac Park Golf Course to hit Golf Balls with Ryan McBride. Then we went to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, National World War II Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial and ended at the White House. The worst part was watching Ryan hit golf balls, Ay Caramba!

On Saturday, the 4th of July I watched the parade on Constitution Ave. someone needs to teach people photo etiquette.   You don’t stand in front four people with cameras. You take your picture and slide out of the way so others can get a shot.

Later that night I went to the steps of the Lincoln Monument and saw an awesome fireworks show.

Woke up early on Sunday to go climb with Ryan who was 30 minutes late picking me up. He claims his phone didn’t charge but I think he over slept. Climbed for a few hours and did really well, and then Ryan and I went to the Congressional Country Club to catch the last round of the AT&T National. Go Tiger!

So that was my Holiday Weekend. I also committed to climbing and purchased my own pair of climbing shoes.  On Friday I watched this guy climb a route I’ve been working on only using his hands. That was humbling!  More on my addiction to climbing later.

The Congressman and I

DSC_0674_edited-2[1]We can all admit that I’m not the most attractive guy in the world, and I DONT have a lazy eye as this picture might show, but give me a break. It was a long day walking the Congressional Country Club and I was tired, but here I am with John Boehner, my favorite Republican Congressman.

His politics aren’t my favorite but I love his attitude and his 365 days-a-year tan! I was at the AT&T National Golf tournament in Bethesda, MD, Wednesday shooting pictures of Tiger golfing and taking in the beautiful state of Maryland. This Picture was taken while I was in the club house asking for directions. Out of the blue House Minority Leader John Boehner stepped out of the locker room. I asked the Congressmen if I could have my picture taken with him and he agreed. I think he was happy that I, Jeffrey Clayton, Pepperdine Masters candidate, actually showed him some love.

See, Congressman Boehner had the unfortunate task of being paired up with Tiger Woods (Worlds #1Golfer) and Tony Romo  (Boyfriend of Jessica Simpson & Quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys) in the Pro-Am. They got all of the attention. Even Romo, a Dallas Cowboy golfing in Redskin territory, received more love then Boehner did. Mostly boos, but still more love.

So here is my shout out to the honorable Congressman from the 8th District of Ohio and House Minority Leader, John Boehner. I love your spunk, Sir!
